Kaltura Classroom is for synchronous communication, similar to Zoom and other meeting tools. Each course in Canvas has its own Kaltura Classroom that your instructor may use for office hours, class meetings, discussions, guest speakers, etc. Depending on the settings within the course room, you may be able to share screens, share files, or communicate via audio, video, and/or text chat.

Using Kaltura Classroom

Your instructor will let you know if and how they plan to use this tool. If your instructor is using this tool, you can access it from the Kaltura Media Gallery by clicking on the green Enter Room button in the upper-right corner. You also have the option to access the meeting through the Kaltura Conferencing mobile app (instructions are provided below).

Important note: Students may only enter Kaltura Classroom after an instructor has initiated a meeting. If you see the "Enter Room" button is greyed out, wait until closer to your scheduled meeting time and refresh the page until you see the "Enter Room" button turn green.

If your instructor records Kaltura Classroom sessions, you can access the recordings by clicking on Kaltura Media Gallery. This page will display a list of all recorded sessions.

Real-Time Virtual Courses with Kaltura Classroom

The DMACC real-time virtual course delivery format is similar to a traditional face-to-face course, but the regularly scheduled class meetings are conducted online with a web conferencing tool instead of in a physical classroom. Virtual web-blended courses also require designated online meetings using a web conferencing tool. Kaltura Classroom is the most commonly used conferencing tool for class meetings.

If you sign up for a course with a virtual component, be sure of the following so you can be prepared.

One day before your class starts, you will be able to enter through Canvas. Be sure to check your DMACC email account regularly, as your instructor may send instructions for getting started and how to access Kaltura Classroom or another virtual classroom tool.
